Transportation & Parking
Minneapolis is known for its excellent public transportation, and students take advantage of it daily. Rated as one of the bike-friendliest cities in the country, those without cars have no problems getting around thanks to numerous safe, affordable, and green-minded options. And in case you were wondering, biking trails are always plowed within twenty-four hours of snowfall so it is possible to bike year-round.
Bus and Light Rail
Metro Transit is one of the country's largest transit systems, offering an integrated network of 130 bus routes, 2 light rail lines, and a 40-mile commuter train, as well as resources for those who carpool, walk, and bike.
Discounted MetroTransit Passes—good for unlimited bus and light rail rides during the semester—are available starting the week before each semester. Stop by the Art Cellar or call 612.874.3775 to purchase a pass.
Bike and Scooter Share
Through the equitable distribution of shared electric bicycles and scooters, Lime aims to reduce dependence on automobiles for short distance transportation, leaving a cleaner, healthier planet.
Car Share
MCAD is a hub for HOURCAR, a non-profit car company for hourly rentals. Available cars can be found on the alley side of the 2537 Apartment Building and checked out by members on a scheduled basis.
Parking
There are unrestricted parking spots on the streets surrounding campus. Commuter students may purchase parking passes from the Art Cellar to use on a space-available basis. Resident students are not allowed to purchase a parking pass.The MCAD parking lot is located at 2572 2nd Ave S, the intersection of 26th Street East and Second Avenue South. The cost is $0.25/hour.
Contract Parking In Mia Ramp
